A short history of Alpha Alpha Chapter
Alpha Alpha Chapter was born at the Pi State meeting held in Rochester, NY on May 14, 1955 as a way to offer more women educators the opportunity for Delta Kappa Gamma membership. There were 14 women in the charter Alpha Alpha group.
Members of our new chapter represented diversity in professional responsibilities: secondary guidance, library service, English, Latin, math and social studies; elementary special education and health education; and college faculty. This diversity has continued to the present day.
Over the years, Alpha Alpha has honored the contributions of many of its early leaders by creating awards, memorial funds, and study grants in their names. Chapter scholarships support women educators in their studies. Chapter scholar awards assist young women who wish to enter the education profession. These awards include both financial and counseling support.
Each year, Alpha Alpha Chapter develops and presents educational programs for its members and raises funds to support its awards and scholarship programs.
